Engaged! Saint John Bridal Show

This Friday (September 14th) is the Engaged Bridal Show in Saint John and I am pleased to be apart of it!! I can't wait to meet with prospective Brides and Grooms to talk about their wedding and the possibility of me being invited to be their wedding photography!!

In preparation for the show I ordered my first sample canvas and a bunch of prints of my favourite images so that I can showcase my work in the best way possible. And I have invested in an iPad so I can bring my website and client lounge up on the spot when talking with Brides and Grooms about my services as well as collect their contact information so I can follow up with an email when I get home :)

And if all that is not enough, I will be at the show with five other businesses representing the Wedding Industry in Saint Andrews, NB!! Sharing the vendor booths with me will be Kingsbrae Gardens, K. Bella Wedding and Event Planning, Dominion Hill, Celebrations by Sarah - Event and Wedding Planning and Party Rentals, and Toose's Bijoux (Bridal Jewelry)!

Together we will put our best foot forward to showcase some of the local talent in our region of New Brunswick while individually promoting our services. And, we have put together a really fantastic prize pack for one lucky Bride and/or Groom, which includes gift certificates and discounts towards photography, party rentals, bridal jewelry, and wedding coordination, and a few other goodies to make it delicious!

And, just to give you an idea of what happens when wedding professionals from Saint Andrews and area put their talents together, check out these few teaser images from Sian and David's wedding, which pretty much included every wedding vendor in Saint Andrews!!

See you Friday!!

{CLASS OF 2013} Lisa

I've known Lisa for a while so it made sense that she would be one of my spokesmodels!  She loves being in front of the camera and fills her none academic hours with activities that she can pour her heart into, such as drama, singing, dancing, playing the piano, and more! But most importantly, she loves her friends and gives her heart to everyone she cares about! There is a joy that exudes, and a playful childlikeness that I hope she never loses!! (I just about lost it with laughter when she got her hands on the bunch of balloons she requested for her photo session... it was so hard to stay focused and take photos as she ran and skipped through the field with her balloons!! ).

Lisa's photoshoot is peppered with things she loves... romantic and colorfully fresh clothes,  pieces of jewelry that really show her personality, St. Stephen locations she loves, books on travel and the balloons - a creative idea she has always to bring to life!! And, the balloon colour choices and number are no accident. There are thirteen balloons in total, representing the thirteen years she will have spent in school by the time she graduates, and the one gold balloon represents here golden birthday, which she celebrated just last week!!

Lisa will be graduating in June 2013, and I am so pleased to have her represented Shannon May Photography.

***Check back in the forthcoming months to hear more about Lisa and to find out what she has been up to as a Spokesmodel for Shannon May Photography!

{COMMUNITY} St. Stephen High School Theatre

There is a this magic that happens when the lights turn dim, the audience quiets and performers ready themselves to take their places... This magic is like an energy that pulls you into another a reality that is unfolding on the stage. I felt this energy as Sarah, Lisa and Casey took place their places on stage and began to live "Strawberry Fields", a play written by Kevin Brofsky and adapted and directed by SSHS's own Esther Soucoup.

Esther's adaption tells the story of two mother's whose son's were killed simply for who they were, and the judgement that lingered and oppressed the families' memories of their loved ones long after their deaths. It's a compelling story that touches on current social and cultural issue (specifically on the relationship between the gay community and the Church), and these young ladies did an amazing job bringing the story to life.

This is a super heavy topic for a high school drama team to tackle however it represents the issues that these young people think about and live. I love that Esther chose to bring this story to SSHS; it shows the community that our next generation are thoughtful and feeling, and the issues they think about and work through far exceeds the typical drama that is depicted in popular television shows or teen magazines. Though the play was a performance and the characters ages are at least double those of the actors, the story represents well the voice of sixteen and seventeen year olds today.

These young ladies, and those in their class that are like-minded, give me hope that we are moving towards a society that celebrates diversity. I am looking forward to a world where our uniqueness is what unites us rather than dividing us.

Esther and her small cast are headed to Prince Edward Island this weekend for a drama fest and camp of sorts after receiving a personal invitation from organizers who saw SSHS's performance during New Brunswick's drama fest last month. Join with me in praying for Esther, Lisa, Sarah and Casey. I pray they will have a enriching time, make great new friends, learn heaps more about theatre and the performance arts, and will continue to use their talents and passions to bring life to story!
