st. andrews portrait session: ashley and kathryn

i'm sure how to begin this post. all i can think to say is how much i adore ashley and kathryn as a couple and as individuals. and i feel privileged to have taken their first portraits as a couple!! how often does one get to hear that you are the only person they would trust to take their picture!

ashley became one of my closest friends while in university, though in the beginning i wasn't too sure about her. ashley was in second year when i first arrived at ssu, and i had the "misfortune" of being in her car on the long drive to pei for a girl's weekend away. i say misfortune because i wasn't sure if i would make it home from the trip alive, or without injury! ashley, you were a little wreckless (and i told you so then)!!!

i think what really solidified our friendship was the year we were housemates in saint croix house (campus housing) and we would have late night jam sessions following or preceding a debate about something that we eventually agreed to disagree! or, perhaps we really became friends during our study abroad trip to europe. one of the trip leaders suggested we be tent mates (i am pretty sure this was some kind of psychological experiment) because it would either make us best friends or mortal enemies! seriously, we would argue so much about so many things!!! but, in the midst of the debating and constant disagreements about whatever we were discussing there was a lot of laughter.

this past year has a great journey of freedom and acceptance for ashley, and for kathryn. it has given me great joy to watch ashley and to listen to her as she embraced who she is!! ashley has always been one of those people that gave me freedom to be childish, to not take myself too seriously, and to be incredibly intentional about being real! love that she has given herself freedom to be herself!

ashley came "home" for ssu's convocation in april and i had the chance to meet kathryn, this wonderful and beautiful woman ashley has be going on and on about (seriously enough already :) it's always interesting meeting your friend's partners; you always get to witness a different side of your friend!! with kathryn around i finally got to see ashley be wrong!!! i never thought i would ever hear ashley say "you're right!!" kathryn is amazing and wonderful (and i am not just saying that because i am her favourite of all of ashley's friends!).

ashley and kathryn. i had so much fun with you gals!!! i miss you both and hope to visit you sometime soon in toronto!!
